I hope you are as excited as I am. There is nothing more soothing to me than to be back in MOPS with my people. People who know me, who get me, who love me just like I am, where I am. <br />
<br />
The theme for MOPS this year is A Fierce Flourishing and we are going to do just that! As moms we become more ourselves when we celebrate, rest, and notice goodness, and that looks a lot like flourishing. We are going to celebrate, rest, and notice goodness as we dive deeper into this years theme with wonderful speakers, excellent discussion, and of course a hearty breakfast! <br />
<br />
I am personally looking forward flourishing this year and seeing each of you flourish as well. <br />
<br />
See you August 27th! <br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Did your parents ever tell you how quickly time flies as you get older??</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I'm starting to fully understand what they meant especially as I think how fast </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
this MOPS year began and ended. And what a GREAT year indeed!!! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
How LUCKY we all are to be a part of such an incredible and encouraging ministry for mothers.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The last meeting of every year is always one of my favorites. You get time to reflect on the year as a whole and appreciate all of God's blessings received through MOPS. This year's theme, <strong><span style="color: blue;">BE YOU BRAVELY</span></strong>, was awesome and there are many things I learned while in MOPS that I'll keep in my heart for a lifetime. </div>

If you've visited any local stores lately, you know the shelves are all stocked with Valentine's Day cards and goodies and everything is drowning in pink and red. Traditionally speaking, I think it's safe to assume this particular holiday is more adored by women than men and has become so commercialized that our men must feel so pressured to do something BIG on this ONE day every year. Well I personally don't know any woman (or man for that matter) who is perfectly fine with receiving love and attention for only one day. PUH-LEASE!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
A great marriage takes hard work 365 days a year, not just on holidays! Our busy schedules and life circumstances often make it difficult to keep the romance alive especially as parents during the preschool years. This whole idea is what inspired the <strong><span style="color: #0b5394;">#GECMOPSDateNightChallenge</span></strong>. Our hope is that this challenge will be fun and creative and most of all, fan the flame of your marriage. So <strong><span style="background-color: white; color: #0b5394;">BE BRAVE</span></strong> and <strong><span style="color: #0b5394;">TAKE THE CHALLENGE</span></strong>!</div>

It brings different emotions for me depending on the hour of the day. At times I'm overjoyed like a child waiting for the Big Day and other times I'm overwhelmed with responsibilities and sadness. If you fall anywhere in that mix, you may enjoy this blog post I found that brought encouragement and relief during this busy season while reminding me of the true celebration this month and the One who allows me to be broken and holds everything together <em>for</em> me so that I may breathe and enjoy the many blessings He's provided beyond measure.<br />
<br />
Merry Christmas friends!<br />

<br />
<br />
I sit in the soft silence of a church service and draw a deep breath.<em> “Get it together,”</em> I tell myself, <em>“It’s the holidays and you’re supposed to be happy.”</em><br />
<br />
But the reality is . . . <em>I’m hurting.</em> I miss my grandpa who slipped home to Jesus last summer. Other holiday seasons have held similar struggles. I remember fighting back tears during our journey through infertility.<br />
<br />
I’ve sighed from exhaustion after pushing through end-of-year projects. I’ve battled seasonal depression.<br />
<br />
Rather than being a comfort, all of this makes me even more certain that this is the year <em>I must.be.okay.</em><br />
<br />
But in the quiet dark it seems I hear a whisper deep within my heart, “Go ahead and be broken . . . I’ll hold you together.”<br />
<strong></strong><br />
<strong><span style="color: purple;">It turns out holding it together isn’t in my job description: “God holds all things together” {Colossians 1:17}.</span></strong><br />
<br />
We serve a Savior who knows Christmas is not just about rejoicing<strong>—</strong>it’s also about the cross. He understands what it is to be human, to have tears slip down our cheeks and hope seep out our souls. He grasps what it’s like to be frustrated with the injustices and troubles of this world. <em>He knows. </em><br />
<br />
It’s okay to have a hard day during the holidays.<br />
<br />
It’s okay to cry . . . and laugh too.<br />
<br />
It’s okay to be concerned about what the new year holds.<br />
<br />
None of that is too big for God to wrap His arms around. He’s got you. He loves you. He is not telling you to “get over it.” Instead He is forever saying:<br />
<blockquote>
Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest. {Matthew 11:28}</blockquote>
Trying to be perfect is exhausting.<br />
<br />
Ignoring our hurt only drives it deeper.<br />
<br />
Pretending our pain isn’t real only makes it yell louder to get our attention.<br />
<em></em><br />
<em>Rest, friend, rest . . .</em><br />
<br />
Because you are loved.<br />
<br />
Because you are safe.<br />
<br />
Because you are cherished beyond all you can imagine.<br />
<strong></strong><br />
<strong>Yes, go ahead and be broken . . . God really will hold you together. </strong><br />
<br />
XOXO<br />

MOPS loves OCC and now is the time to participate in this annual service opportunity and include your children in the process. Invite your kids to pack a shoebox of gifts for a hurting child overseas of their same age and gender. Toys, school supplies, and hygiene items packed into a shoebox can all express the love of Christ to a boy or girl in need.<br />
<br />
What goes into the box is fun, but what comes out is eternal. Through the power of Christ, one shoebox gift can multiply disciples, plant new churches, and inspire children to share the Gospel with family and friends. Since 1993, over 113 million children in 150 countries have had the opportunities to hear the Gospel through shoeboxes packed by people like you for Operation Christmas Child.<br />
<br />
<u>It's simple really</u>. <br />
1. Pack a shoebox (choose gender and age). There are millions of ideas on Pinterest if you're not quite sure what to include.<br />
2. Pay $7 per box for shipping. You can follow your box and get notified of its destination if you pay for shipping online. Click <a href="http://www.samaritanspurse.org/operation-christmas-child/follow-your-box/?utm_source=6787-OCC-Its-Shoebox-Time&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=m_YOCC-14EB&utm_content=FYB-hyperlink" target="_blank">HERE</a>.<br />
3. Drop off your box(es) at the MOPS meeting on <strong><u>NOVEMBER 13</u></strong>.<br />
4. Pray for the child who will receive your shoebox gift.<br />
<br />
This video explains it all (and my 4 year old wanted to watch it over and over again). :) :) :)<br />

<br />
Once we start playing the comparison game, it’s hard to stop.<br />
<br />
There’s my friend Marcie—the perfect mom with her counters always sparkling, her carpet clutter-free, and her kids smiling like little angels.<br />
<br />
There’s my friend Laura—the peaceful mom with her endless patience and tenderness with her children.<br />
<br />
Then there’s me—texting my kids to ask where they are, unsuccessfully attempting to cook a simple dinner, and hiding in the laundry room behind growing piles of dirty clothes.<br />
<br />
Sometimes, we hear this little voice in the back of our minds telling us that our kids would be better off with another kind of mom—and we start to believe it. We start doubting, and ask ourselves, “Why can’t I be more like Marcie or Laura??”<br />
<br />
But the truth is that from the beginning of time, God has planned for you to be EXACTLY where you are. God put your child in your care…and the mom you are is the mom God wanted your child to have. We must come to understand that “I’m a mess. But I’m a beautiful mess. I’m His masterpiece, and that’s enough.”<br />

The March meeting focused on the topic of Discipline and the message came from a panel of our own mentors. 'Queen Mentor', Patty, led the way in shaping the young minds of our moms to think of disciplining our children in a new way. I found myself hanging on to every word and I thought the message was spot on. The excerpt below summarizes the message.</span></em><br />
<br />
by: Patty A.<br />
Discipline and Disciple clearly come from the same root word. <br />
<div id="yui_3_13_0_1_1396224537141_2675">
</div>
<div id="yui_3_13_0_1_1396224537141_2674">
Disciple means (verb) 'to teach, to train, or bring up' and (noun) 'pupil, student, follower'.</div>
<div id="yui_3_13_0_1_1396224537141_2673">
</div>
<div id="yui_3_13_0_1_1396224537141_2672">
Discipline means (verb) 'to bring a state of order, to train, to punish' and (noun) 'instruction given, teaching, learning, knowledge'.</div>
<div id="yui_3_13_0_1_1396224537141_2671">
</div>
<div id="yui_3_13_0_1_1396224537141_2667">
To understand how to discipline effectively, we need to know how to disciple our kids.</div>
<div id="yui_3_13_0_1_1396224537141_2679">
Most of our daily discipline or teaching is actually behavior modification. We need our kids to learn how to behave in a certain way. This is very important.</div>
<div id="yui_3_13_0_1_1396224537141_2681">
However, because of the intensity of your day-to-day life, I fear we lose the big picture, and that is parenting with an eternal goal. Discipling is a matter of the heart. What kind of person do you want your child to become 30 years from now? What kind of character do you want him/her to have? When you get a fix on that, then you can parent toward that end. Keep in mind, THERE ARE NO GUARANTEES! The Bible is full of stories of GOOD parents raising bad kids and BAD parents raising good kids and vice-versa.</div>
<div id="yui_3_13_0_1_1396224537141_2682">
</div>
<div id="yui_3_13_0_1_1396224537141_2683">
The good news is that Jesus' primary prayer, purpose and passion were to provide the way for us to BE THERE with Him in eternity. In Dr. Dobson's book Life on the Edge, he relates what he told his son Ryan: "When the time comes [to die], there is only one thought I want to leave with you . . . BE THERE [in Heaven]. Do not let anything deter you from keeping that appointment . . . This is the only thing of real significance in your life . . . above every other purpose and goal, the only thing that really matters is that you determine now to BE THERE!"</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
I pray this is your ultimate goal as you parent with an eye on eternity. If you believe that Jesus died for you and you receive Him as your Savior, you will have eternal life in Heaven with Him. Jesus is the Answer.</div>

This time of year also means our MOPS year is coming to a close. Sad but true! Before we know it summer will be upon us and if your kids are like mine, you too will be faced with the daily questioning of:<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<em><strong><span style="font-size: large;">WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO TODAY, MOMMY?</span></strong></em></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<strong><em><span style="font-size: large;"></span></em></strong> </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
We're making a preemptive strike against this summer dilemma with our latest MOPS craft. </div>

This "F" word can be a blessing and a curse depending on how you view it's purpose and communicate with your spouse. Our panel answered burning questions and shared their own failures and successes as they have grown in marriage and experienced difficult circumstances related to money.<br />
<br />
A point that stood out most to me and changes your perspective on the situation is:<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<strong><em><span style="font-size: large;">"Money is just Money"</span></em></strong></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"></span> </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
In the midst of hardship or financial strain, money can often take center stage as the antagonist and it is easy to imagine the disappearance of our problems 'if we just had more money'. This deception provides a slippery slope into a greater misunderstanding of God's plan for your life and marriage. Don't be deceived friends. If your marriage is burdened by financial strain, take your plea to the One whose unconditional love for you is priceless. You'll find the answer on your knees.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Supporting our husbands in the tough times starts with being supportive. Beyond that, keeping the stress level down in your marriage will help him get through the tough times more easily too. Click here to learn <a href="http://www.imom.com/mom-life/marriage-and-love/10-things-to-do-to-help-your-marriage-feel-less-stressed/" target="_blank">10 things to help your marriage feel less stressed</a>.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Lastly, I wanted to include a few easy and convenient resources for simply money-savings. While individually these tips may seem small in value, a little goes a long way when you are living simply and sacrificially but still need milk and diapers frequently. If you're vehemently opposed to couponing then this isn't for you, but here are just a few ways I've found savings on everyday items and don't spend much time at all doing so.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
1.<strong><span style="color: red;"> Coupon file</span></strong> - when I receive coupon circulars in the mail, I will quickly scan the pages for items/brands I already use (lunchmeat, mayo, tissue, etc) and clip those coupons. I organize them by category in a small accordion file (baby, health/beauty, household, grocery, misc) and put it away. When it's time to shop I will either just stuff the entire file in my purse and take it with me or I'll sort through the coupons after making my list and only bring those. This clipping process takes no longer than 5 - 10 minutes. In many instances, I've saved a minimum of $10 and up to $30 in one transaction using this method. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
2. <strong><span style="color: red;">Smartphone apps</span></strong> - if you're a smartphone user, this is a no-brainer in my opinion. No clipping required. I install apps for my most frequented stores (Target, Kroger, Walgreens) and in many cases there are ecoupons available exclusively through the app. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Here's a list of a <strong>few of my favorite money-saving apps</strong>. I could go on and on why I love them so much but I'll keep it concise. (BTW all these apps are FREE)</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
a. <u><strong>Cartwheel by Target</strong></u> - if you're a Target shopper and not using this app - STOP NOW and get it. You customize the Target specific coupons you want and scan one barcode at checkout. In the short time I've used this app, I've saved well over $100. (I'm also a fan of the Target Redcard (debit) - save 5% on every purchase)</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
b. <strong><u>Kroger</u></strong> - upload ecoupons directly to your registered Kroger card.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
c. <strong><u>Shopkick</u></strong> - users are rewarded with kicks (points) for opening the app in available stores. At certain point thresholds you can redeem for many rewards. So many major stores participate like Target, Best Buy, Bed, Bath & Beyond, Macy's, Sephora, etc. So for example, I open the ShopKick app as I'm walking into Target and it dings at the entrance with a number of kicks. I'm currently hoarding my points to get a mac-daddy redemption but you can decide when to redeem and you can use the reward for money off at each of the stores I mentioned among many others.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
d. <strong><u>RetailMeNot</u></strong> - notifies you when sales are taking place at your favorite stores.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
e.<strong><u> Free Prints</u></strong> - if you never print pictures because it's time consuming and expensive, this is for you. This app allows you to print up to 1,000 FREE 4x6 photos per year. And shipped right to your door.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Happy Savings Mommas!! Use the savings you find for a well-deserved date night or stash it away as savings.</div>

This holiday can often stir up sweet-or-sour emotions based on your current "love" circumstances. If we choose to reflect on the Creator of Love himself, God, we can be sure to avoid any feelings of loneliness or sadness. We are loved beyond measure by the one who made us. He deserves our best praise and adoration on this day, and always!<br />
<br />
Diane Daniel shared a thought-provoking message on creating romance in the home. As moms of young children, romance can often take a cozy seat on the back burner but Diane encouraged us to keep it alive and offered some great suggestions on creating a loving atmosphere, positive attitude, and some fresh new ideas for time alone with your valentine. I don't know about you but my kids are always cuter after I've had some quality time away with my husband. <br />
<br />
<u><em>Here are some insightful questions to ask yourself as you reflect on this topic.</em></u><br />
1. Romance is so much more than sex. Who do you think is the most romantic in your marriage? What can you do to create an atmosphere for romance?<br />
2. What is the biggest hindrance to romance in your marriage?<br />
3. What are some creative ways to make more time for each other?<br />
4. Name some simple dates you and your spouse could take.<br />
5. What are some economical ways to have a splurge date or getaway? What's your favorite date or getaway you and your spouse have taken besides your honeymoon?<br />
<br />
<u><em>Recommended Book List:</em></u><br />
1. Wisdom for Mothers - Denise Glenn (Week 4 & 5)<br />
2. Sheet Music - Kevin Leman<br />
3. Intimate Issues - Linda Dillow & Lorraine Pintus<br />
4. Simply Romantic Nights - Dennis Rainey<br />
5. Creative Counterpart - Linda Dillow<br />
6. His Needs Her Needs - Willard R. Harley, Jr.<br />
7. The Excellent Wife - Martha Peace<br />
8. Romancing the Home - Dr. Ed Young<br />
9. Covenant Marriage - Dr. Fred Lowery<br />
10. Love Life for Every Married Couple - Dr. Ed Wheat, M.D.<br />
11. Love for a Lifetime - Dr. James Dobson<br />
12. Intended for Pleasure - Dr. Ed Wheat, M.D. & Gaye Wheat<br />
13. Every Woman's Battle - Shannon Ethridge<br />
14. Power of a Praying Wife - Stormie Omartian<br />
15. Love & Respect - Dr. Emerson Eggerichs<br />
<br />
Take the <strong><span style="color: blue;">30 Day Marriage Challenge</span></strong> (<a href="http://www.imom.com/tools/build-relationships/30-day-marriage-challenge/" target="_blank">click here</a>) and commit to doing a little bit, each day, for a better marriage. Every day of the month, find the corresponding number and follow the tip. So, if you begin the challenge on February 15; start with tip 15 and move on from there. You can repeat the list every month!<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Our January 9th MOPS meeting focused on how our 'Beautiful Mess' of motherhood is impacted by FRIENDSHIP!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We all know the importance of true and meaningful friendship but it can be difficult to nurture those relationships through the busy season of parenting preschoolers. Our group was privileged to hear from two lifelong friends, Cindy Shriver and Sharon Oates, as they shared their journey through becoming friends and sharing in one another's hardships and triumphs over more than 30 years. Was it always easy? Of course not. Was it always convenient? Nope. Were there ever obstacles to overcome? Undoubtedly Yes. But through it all, Was the effort important? Absolutely. Did the friendship grow? Abundantly. And the connection between these friends is stronger today than ever.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Some take-aways from their message:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
- Give your friend the benefit of the doubt</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
- Show them grace without judgment</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
- Make the effort</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
- Be willing to offer tough love</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
As we begin another new year, let's resolve to nurture the friendships that we value most. Even the smallest of gestures can move mountains...a text to say "I'm thinking of you today", a personal note in the mail or a scheduled time together to listen and share the details of your life. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Don't forget that OUR role as friend can impact the way our KIDS make friends. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Use this great devotional with your kids to teach the impact of 'sweet' and 'sour' friendships.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<strong>Kind Words attract friends! Proverbs 16:24</strong></div>
<div id="yui_3_13_0_ym1_1_1389718333783_10764">
<strong>"A Spoonful of Sugar"</strong></div>
<div>
</div>
<div id="yui_3_13_0_ym1_1_1389718333783_10765">
Sprinkle pepper liberally over a small bowl of water. Tell the child the pepper represents the people around him - his friends. You can name names and talk about how he interacts with those people in real life. Discuss the fact that how we get along with those people is largely determined by how we treat them and speak to them. Words can be very powerful tools, either for good or bad, and it's important to learn positive and kind ways of speaking to our friends and family. If the child is old enough, talk with her about the meaning of the saying, "Stick and stones will break my bones, but words will break my heart."</div>
<div id="yui_3_13_0_ym1_1_1389718333783_10766">
Now talk about an example of someone who does not use kind words when speaking to others. Using a bar of soap, tell the child the bar of soap represents negative, harsh language. Have the child touch the soap to the center of the water. The soap will repel the pepper and will cause it to be dispersed to the sides of the bowl. Make the comparison that when we speak unkindly to others, they won't want to be around us, and will want to scatter.</div>
<div id="yui_3_13_0_ym1_1_1389718333783_10767">
Finally, take a teaspoon of sugar and pour it in the center of the water, comparing the sugar to the sweetness of kind and thoughtful words. The pepper will be drawn in to the sugar. Talk about how being loving toward other people usually causes them to be drawn to us, and makes them want to be our friends.</div>

Only one week until Christmas. Can you believe it? I absolutely love the excitement in the air and the anticipation of Christmas Day. With the busyness this season brings, it can be difficult to find time for every holiday activity imaginable. So in case you are still looking for some family friendly ideas to make your Christmas merry and bright, we've compiled a few that are super easy and also teach the real meaning of CHRISTmas! <br />
<br />
The <a href="http://www.imom.com/tools/seasonal/christmas/the-story-of-christmas/" target="_blank">Story of Christmas printable</a> can be used in so many ways to teach your children about the real story behind Christmas. It includes nativity figure cut-outs or you can use your own to help illustrate the story. Another printable resource for help in bringing more meaning to your holiday is the <a href="http://www.imom.com/tools/conversation-starters/christmas-talk/" target="_blank">Christmas Talk Conversation Starters</a>. For example: "Whose birthday are we celebrating?" or "What is your favorite Christmas tradition?" Share them with your children over a cup of hot chocolate, snuggled in blankets on a cool night. These are the memories our little ones will cherish most.<br />
<br />
Share Christmas Love! There is joy in getting, but there is greater joy in giving. As much as I want my children to enjoy the thrill of opening their gifts on Christmas day, I also want them to experience the joy of sharing with others. I want them to understand that the greatest gift on Christmas was born out of love, and that they can share Christmas love too.<br />
<br />
So when your children are out of school for Christmas break, maybe consider having a day to focus on giving. Here are some <a href="http://www.imom.com/seasonal/christmas/10-ways-to-share-christmas-love/" target="_blank">helpful ideas</a> to get you started.<br />
<br />
Merry Christmas Everyone! And Cheers to a Happy and Healthy New Year!<br />
