Plunging Deeper into Faith

For we walk by faith, not by sight. 2 Corinthians 5:7

One of my favorite things about being involved in MOPS is that every woman has a unique story and the journey along the way has looked different for most of us. I love getting to know new faces and listening to each family's story. It's exciting to see how God brings everyone together from so many different backgrounds but with a common desire to be encouraged and equipped as mothers.

At our October 4th meeting, Janet Turner shared powerful stories of three special ladies and their personal journeys plunging deeper into faith. Each story and set of circumstances looked different from the others yet God's sovereign will was in place from the very beginning and each person came to know Him in his perfect timing. What a blessing to know we can rest in His sovereignty. And as a mother, the idea of rest can seem so foreign and unattainable when all of our energy during the young years is poured out entirely on our family. So whether you relate more to the young child growing up in church, the woman who was encouraged to take the plunge by friends, or the single mom who endured a terrible set of circumstances, we can all celebrate the fact that we are each called by God according to his purpose and he will give us rest.

I found the following devotion from "Jesus Calling" very encouraging.

Pour all of your energy into trusting Me. It is through trust that you stay connected to Me, aware of My Presence. Every step on your life-journey can be a step of faith. Baby steps of trust are simple for you; you can take them with almost unconscious ease. Giant steps are another matter altogether: leaping across chasms in semidarkness, scaling cliffs of uncertainty, trudging through the valley of the shadow of death. These feats require sheer concentration, as well as utter commitment to Me.

Each of My children is a unique blend of temperament, giftedness, and life experiences. Something that is a baby step for you may be a giant step for another person, and vice versa. Only I know the difficulty or ease of each segment of your journey. Beware of trying to impress others by acting as if your giant steps are only baby ones. Do not judge others who hesitate, in trembling fear, before an act that would be easy for you. If each of My children would seek to please Me above all else, fear of others' judgments would vanish, as would attempts to impress others. Focus your attention on the path just ahead of you and on the One who never leaves your side.
